Top Scholarships for Pride Month and LGBTQ+ Students

June is Pride Month, a month of open celebration for LGBTQ+ people across the country. These marginalized groups are gaining more and more ground in the way of representation and fair treatment, and that includes scholarship opportunities. Communities all over the country can look forward to the support from these organizations who understand the struggles unique to the LGBTQ+ movement and provide necessary assistance for those seeking a higher education. That’s why we made this list of scholarships for the LGBTQ+ community so you could take advantage.

1.    Follansbee-Hansen Scholarship

PFLAG Sacramento is pleased to offer scholarships of $2,000 or more to qualified students from the Sacramento area. The scholarship is named in honor of The Rev. and Mrs. Merrill Follansbee, and Jean Hansen, our chapter's co-founders and proud parents of LGBTQ+ individuals.

Due Date: May 31, 2024

Amount: $2,000

Eligibility: Undergraduate (Sacramento, CA Region)

2.    Out to Innovate Scholarships for LGBTQ+STEM Students

These scholarships are intended for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) programs who are either lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or an active ally of the LGBTQ+ community. The scholarships are designed to promote academic excellence and increased visibility of talented LGBTQ+ students in STEM careers.

Due Date: June 4, 2023

Amount: $5,000

Eligibility: Undergraduate, Identify as LGBTQ+

3.    NWSA Lesbian Caucus Award

The purpose of this award is to discover, encourage, and promote the intellectual development of emerging scholars who engage in critical theoretical discussions and/or analyses about feminist/womanist issues concerning women and girls of color in the United States and diasporas.

Due Date: June 7, 2023

Amount: $500

Eligibility: Graduate/Professional Program, Woman of Color, Identify as Lesbian

4.    The David Womack Memorial West Virginia LGBT Scholarship

The David Womack Memorial West Virginia LGBT Scholarship is available to any gay or lesbian undergraduate student who is a resident of West Virginia. The scholarship applies to attendance at any institute of higher learning in the United States. The scholarship is awarded in August for the upcoming school year.

Due Date: June 30, 2023

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility: Undergraduate, West Virginia resident (Good for Any School Nationwide), Identifies as LGBTQ+

5.    Pride Foundation Scholarships

Our work is grounded in the simple, yet revolutionary belief every person should be able to live safely, openly, and genuinely in all the places we call home. This is the same belief that has guided our visionary leaders for more than three decades. Pride Foundation was founded in 1985, in the midst of the HIV & AIDS crisis, by a small but courageous group of people who came together to create a source of light and hope during a period of profound darkness. Throughout our generosity, scholarships are offered.

Eligibility: Post-Secondary Education, Northwest Region (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington), Identify as LGBTQ+

6.    PFund Scholarship

PFund’s scholarship fund is used to provide scholarships to LGBTQ+ learners from the upper Midwest at all stages of their educations. In 2022, PFund Foundation distributed a record $125,000 to 50 queer students from across the upper Midwest.

Due Date: March 15, 2024

Amount: $12,000

Eligibility: Upper Midwest School (Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota), Undergraduate and Up, Identifies as LGBTQ+

7.    LEAGUE Foundation Scholarships

The LEAGUE Foundation provides financial resources for America’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender high school seniors entering their first year of institutions of higher learning. The scholarship application opens annually in January and closes in April with awards distributed in the summer of each year.

Eligibility: High School Graduate, Identify as LGBTQ+

8.    SCF Aritzia Scholarship

Established by Aritzia, a fashion retailer with an innovative global platform, this scholarship supports LGBTQIA people in their pursuit of higher education. Four students will receive one-time scholarships of $5,000 each, paid directly to the student’s school.

Eligibility: Undergraduate or Graduate, Fashion, Retail Management, Mental Health or Social Justice Study Field, Identify as LGBTQ+

9.    eQuality Scholarships

eQuality Scholarship Collaborative awards scholarships to honor and encourage California students for their service to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community.

Due Date: January 31, 2024

Amount: $6,000

Eligibility: High School Seniors, Undergraduate, Demonstrate service to LGBTQ+ Community

10.                  Milton E. Ford LGBT Scholarships

The Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center collaborates with campus and community partners to create an inclusive and equitable environment where all are empowered to be their authentic selves. The Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center advocates for institutional equity, promotes community-building, and provides educational opportunities to create an informed, cohesive, and just campus where community members of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender presentations are supported and welcome.
